Flocked Components and Articles
Flock has been around for years, technology and adhesives have improved so much that we see flocking more in our daily lives, printers use flock on T-shirts, perfume companies use flock in packaging, the automotive industry use flock for dashboards, glove boxes, ABC pillars and general interior components.
Almost any surface or object can be given a flock finish.The item or area has to be coated with a glue. The flock fiber is then charged electrostaticaly which causes the individual fibers to penetrate “end on” into the adhesive. This creates a high density pile effect of up to 150,000 fibers per sq inch, which gives a perfect flock velvet finish.
Flocking interior surfaces provides many advantages including: Masking unattractive substrates, Anti glare for dashboards, Reduced water condensation, Thermal Insulation, Noise Reduction etc
Sizes of Flock Range from – 0.5mm to 1.2mm and 1.7 dtex to 3.3 dtex.

- TPE –Thermoplastic Elastomer or alternatively refered as Thermoplastic Rubber
- Families of Polymers or Copolymers that will soften and flow when heated , but when cooled will exhibit dimensional stability and rubberlike properties, although they do not undergo the vulcanization or curing process.
- Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) is a material that performs as thermoset rubber ,but can be processed as plastic
- Having a hard phase having thermoplastic nature and a soft phase which is a elastomer.
- Available in free flowing pellets like any other plastic and easy to handle unlike thermoset rubber.
- Easy colourability and have lower specific gravilty.
- Recyclable like any other thermoplastic material.
- Lower specific gravity as compared to Thermoset rubber hence lighter weight and effective more volume of products.
- Does not require any compounding ,a ready to use material in pellet form like any other plastic.
